A HAIR salon in Whitley Bay has given something back to a local family after years of their loyal custom.
Saks, on Park View in the town centre, has chosen the Mark Taylor Fund as its charity of the year.
The salon will now raise cash to help the good cause, which benefits sufferers of Motor Neurone Disease, with various events over the next 12 months.
And last week the staff at the salon gave the close family and friends of Mark, who played at Wembley for Whitley Bay in the 2009 FA Carlsberg Vase final, a beauty night to give them a chance to relax.
Charlette Harris, an apprentice at the salon came up with the idea.
She said: “The charity is close to the salon’s heart.
“His sister Gemma told us about what Mark was going through and it was never in doubt that we would help that charity.
“They have been coming to this salon for years and we wanted to give something back.”
Raffle tickets have also been on sale for customers attending the salon and more than £400 has been raised for the charity already.
Salon manager Margaret Cassidy added: “We will have a number of fundraisers throughout the year and all the money will go towards that charity.
“We invited the girls around because we wanted to do something nice for them, and give them a couple of hours off to relax and be pampered.”
Alec Gordon of Party Planet also attended the pamper evening and provided a DJ set and quiz for everyone who attended.
