A pupil has come up with an ‘eggs-ellent’ way to raise money for charity.
Sam Matthews is hosting an Easter Egg Hunt for the family at Souter Park, in Whitley Bay, to raise money for Junior Diabetes Research.

The 12-year-old was inspired to hold the fundraising event after one of his close friends, Ted, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes last year.
As well as the egg hunt, the event will also feature an egg and spoon race, competitions for best decorated eggs and bonnets, a cake and toy stalls, and a chocolate tombola.
All proceeds will go to the Junior Diabetes Research Fund, which funds research to cure, treat and prevent Type 1 Diabetes.
Sam said: “When my friend Ted was diagnosed with diabetes, we were really worried about him and wanted to do something to help.
“I hope this event will raise lots of money for a really important cause – and that everyone will have lots of fun taking part.”
The symptoms of Type 1 Diabetes usually develop very quickly in young people but take longer to develop in adults.
The hunt takes place from 10.30am to 12.30pm on Saturday, April 4. Entry is £1.
