A school is celebrating a new outdoor area, thanks to lottery funding.
Redesdale Primary School, in Wallsend, was successful in its bid to the National Lottery Awards for All England to develop an outdoor gym area.
The new area – sited on soft tread surfacing – includes a range of equipment for students to use, to help them keep fit and active while at school.
The school, which says it is determined to make an impact on the health and wellbeing of all its children, has continued to invest in the provision of various outdoor equipment used to target childhood obesity during breaks and lunchtimes.
Graham Wall, school business manager, was delighted the bid had been successful, allowing them to build the gym.
He said: “We were pleased when we learned our grant application to The Big Lottery Fund had been accepted.
“Without the financial support offered by Awards for All England, it would have been impossible for the school to develop this new and exciting facility.
“The new outside gym equipment and soft tread surfacing provides the potential for children to access year-round learning of exercising with equipment, whilst getting fitter and staying healthy.
“The Awards for All England grant opportunity scheme has been an invaluable source of additional funding for our school over the past few years, and we are very grateful for all the assistance we have received from the Awards for All team based here in the region.”
