A Scout group is appealing for new members over fears it may have to close its doors for good.
The 21st Whitley Bay (St Peter’s) Scout Group – based in Rinkway Activity Centre next to the town’s ice rink – is a long time established scout group.
It’s experienced leaders have a combined total of more than 100 years in scouting.
But recent fears have been raised that it could be forced to close due to low numbers.
A spokesperson said: “At the moment we are actively seeking to increase our membership to enable the group to keep functioning and to provide an exciting and active experience for young people in an around the area of the Hillheads Estate.
“Our headquarters provides an excellent indoor activity area and our secured external area provides for activities such as a transverse climbing wall and crate stacking facilities.”
The group caters for boys and girls aged five to 13 with meetings on Tuesdays – 5.30pm to 6.30pm for children up to seven years; 6.30pm to 8pm for children aged eight and nine; and 7pm to 8.30pm for children aged ten to 13.
