Scouts’ fundraiser to support African township

A Scout group is holding a fundraising night to support a charity’s work in part of Africa.

Youngsters and officials at 21st Whitley Bay (St Peter’s) Scout Group are holding the event on Tuesday, April 1.

The group has a long standing connection with Mityana Community Development Foundation, a north east charity which carries out sustainable projects in education, health and enterprise in Mityana, a township in Uganda.

Three of the scout group leaders are trustees of the charity and visit Uganda twice a year to maintain these projects.

At the moment the group – 30 young people aged from six to 13 – are supporting the building of a new nursery classroom at the school they sponsor in Mityana and are also helping raise money to pay for the Mityana scouts to attend their District Scout Camp in the summer.

The fundraising night is taking place at their Rinkway headquarters, off Hillheads Road, Whitley Bay, from 6.30pm to 8pm.

Tickets are £1.50, including hot dog, juice and Beetle game, and there will also be a raffle and bingo.

Everyone is welcome and tickets can be booked by ringing Claire on 07952 713679.
