Members of a borough scout group are looking to help trace their roots and make contact with former members in the run up to their centenary celebrations in 2015.

The 3rd Tynemouth (Ritson’s Own) Scout Group is holding an open day on Saturday, may 18, from 1pm to 5pm at their headquarters on Billy Mill Lane, North Shields where memorabilia from the past 98 years of Scouting in their Group will be on display.

Scout leader Michael Dale said: “This will be the forth open day we have held to help trace our “family” history, the previous ones have all been a great success and have resulted in us contacting a lot of ex-scouts and their families.

“Thanks to days like this, as well as quite a bit of research in libraries and archives, we are managing to build up quite a comprehensive history of our group.

“We are now looking to build on personal stories to add to the factual information we have collected.”

The Scouts are hoping that ex-members or their family members will not only come and see the things they have found so far but also add to the information by bringing stories, photos or anything else they may have and can share.

Anyone wanting more information about the open day, or those who have a story they can share about their time in the group can get in touch with Michael Dale by emailing or calling 07713 056858.
