Ryan Yellop, Chris McCabe, Chris Waddell, Thomas Reid and Kai Downey all crossed the whitewash to score, and the versatile Josh Donnelly added a conversion and a penalty to complete the scoring for the Red and Golds.

This was a good all round team effort, with the defence outstanding in the first half and captain Liam Bowman was in the thick of the action, but man of the match went to Chris McCabe.

The result lifts Rockcliff into fourth place in Durham and Northumberland Division 2, and sets things up nicely for the visit of second placed Ponteland on Saturday.

Meanwhile Rockcliff’s second team, the Vikings, were just edged out in a thrilling game against Novos in the Northumberland RU River Aln League.

Man of the match Rob Straker scored two tries, with further scores coming from Steven Scott, Chris Nixon and Simon Cormack. Chris Forster added three conversions and a penalty as they lost 38-34.
