Security guards attacked in Camperdown

A security guard was attacked with a baseball bat at a convenience store in North Tyneside on Wednesday.

At 12.25pm on Wednesday January 29, police received a report of a robbery at the One Stop store, on Station Road, Camperdown.

Two security guards were at the store when they were approached by two men who got out of a white Ford Connect style van, parked opposite, and who were armed with baseball type bats.

The men attacked one of the guards and stole a cash box containing a quantity of cash from him before they left the scene in the white van.

The guard was not seriously injured as a result of the incident.

The first offender is described as white, of stocky build, 5ft 8ins to 5ft 10ins tall, with short dark hair and wearing dark clothing and a balaclava. He was carrying either a baseball or cricket bat made of light coloured wood.

The second man was of stocky build, under 6ft tall, wearing a dark blue fleece, dark trousers, and a balaclava.

Officers also believe there may have been a third man who might have been driving the van away from the scene.

Detective Inspector Steve Wouldhave said: “This happened during the middle of the day when Station Road would have been busy with people, buses and taxis.

“The white van that the offenders used was parked in the loading area next to the One Stop shop for at least ten minutes before the robbery took place. I want to speak to anyone who might driven past it and seen the vehicle parked up to get in touch.

“We also want to hear from anyone who might have been in Station Road this morning, or in the recent days and weeks leading up to the incident and who might have seen any unusual or suspicious people or vehicles hanging around to come forward as soon as possible.”

Officers are appealing for anyone who was in the Station Road area and who saw anything, or anyone with any information into the robbery, is asked to contact police on 101 extension 69191.
