Learning Disability Week – from June 20 to 26 – is co-ordinated by MENCAP and focuses on issues affecting people with a learning disability and their families.

Two events will take place from 1.30pm to 3.30pm at Wallsend Customer First Centre in the Mauritania room on Monday, June 20; and at North Shields Customer First Centre in Rooms 1 and 2, on Thursday, June 23.

Learning disability community matron Mary Johnstone said: “This year’s theme is about friendships, relationships and information of other services in North Tyneside to promote health and wellbeing.

“We would encourage people to come along and have a chat to the team and find out more about our services.”

“These events are an opportunity to meet new people as well as getting advice and information about health and wellbeing and the range of support available.”

The Community Learning Disabilities team provides a range of support for people who have learning disabilities and complex health needs in North Tyneside.

The team works with children and adults with learning disabilities, their families and carers, and other health professionals offering support to manage complex health needs and additional conditions for example autism, epilepsy and to promote good mental health and wellbeing.

Services are provided in the most appropriate location for the person with learning disabilities, which could be their home, respite or day centre, or in a school or college.
