Services of Remembrance to take place this weekend

A NUMBER of services are taking place in the borough to remember those who died while serving their country.

Members of the public are being invited to attend civic services taking place on Remembrance Sunday.

The events on Sunday, November 11, are:

• In Wallsend, a march party will leave from Richardson Street at 10.35am, travelling along High Street East, over the Burn Bridge, to Archer Street, and then to the Burns Closes War Memorial for the service at 10.55am;

• In North Shields, the parade will assemble in the car park at Queen Alexandra College in North Shields, leaving at 10.30am to march along Hawkey’s Lane, to the War Memorial for 10.55am.

• In Longbenton, the parade will gather at the Ex-Servicemen’s Institute, Crescent Way North, Forest Hall, leaving in procession at 10.40am. The parade will march along Forest Hall Road, Station Road and Station Road North, to arrive at the Cenotaph at St Bartholomew’s Church, Benton for 10.55am.

• In Whitley Bay, the march party will assemble from 2.15pm at the British Legion Office, Victoria Terrace, leaving at 2.30pm, to march in procession to the Cenotaph on The Links, where the service will commence at 3pm.
