A teenage singing sensation from the borough has beaten thousands of other singers from the north east to make it through to the grand final of a national talent competition.
Fourteen-old Shauna Gallon, from Whitley Bay, was picked by judges to go through to the final of Teenstar after wowing them with her rendition of Purple Rain by Prince at the weekend’s regional final in Newcastle.
Shauna, who last year released a charity single that raised funds for the NSPCC, will now travel to London in July to perform live at the O2 Arena for the chance to win the competition.
Shauna’s mum Louise said: “She is over the moon to have got through to the final, and she has done so well as there were only a few chosen at the regional final to go through.
“She is now looking for a new song to sing for the final.
“We are so proud of her for getting this far, she is a very talented girl and it’s great for her to get through to the grand final.”
The St Thomas More Academy pupil is now in with a chance of winning the grand prize of £5,000 to spend on her musical act, a publicity and promotional package, and a recording deal with Future Music.
