Shop targeted for the second time in a week by armed robbers

A store has been targeted by armed robbers for the second time in a week.

A knife wielding robber entered the One Stop shop in St George’s Road, Cullercoats, at 8.14pm on Monday.

He demanded money from the till, stealing an undisclosed quantity of cash and left.

No one was injured during the robbery, but staff were very shaken by the incident.

The person responsible for the robbery is described as a white man, approximately 6ft 2ins tall, thin build, with blue eyes.

He was wearing a balaclava and black clothing and carrying a knife.

Police are carrying out enquiries in the area and additional officers are on patrol to reassure the community.

Acting Neighbourhood Inspector Guy Morgan said: “We’re asking for help from the public to identify and locate the offender and would ask for anyone with information about this incident to come froward.

“This is the second time this store has been robbed recently, the first happened at 9.58pm on Monday, February 13.

“We are keeping an open mind as to whether the two incidents are linked.”

Police are appealing for witnesses, anyone who was in the area and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious, is asked to contact police.
