New shops will be ‘popping up’ in North Shields in time for the Christmas trading rush.
As part of North Tyneside Council’s business support, it is launching four pop-up shops for fledgling businesses in the former Connexions centre in Russell Street.
The units, opening at the end of the month, are all different sizes and will be available to rent from the council for six months; however there is an option to extend the lease for a further six months.
Coun Frank Lott, cabinet member responsible for economic development, said: “We know there are many people working on a very small scale – sometimes online or from their own home – who are looking for the chance to test their ideas and take temporary shop space to sell their products.
“Pop up shops is just one initiative the council is developing to help those people take their first tentative steps.
“We are always looking at ways which we can help keep our town centres special and vibrant and this project is the perfect start for our budding traders and entrepreneurs to get their business off the ground at the busiest time of the year.”
The shops are on the ground floor with options on the first floor for storage or expansion.
Opening times will be a strict 9am to 5pm Monday to Saturday.
