YMCA North Tyneside recently had to postpone its annual Sleep Easy event due to the yellow weather warning and the Mini Beast From the East.
However, it has been rearranged for Friday, April 27, and the plan is to hold it in the same North Shields venue – St Cuthbert’s Primary School’s Secret Garden.
Now that the organisers have a little more time before the new date, they are calling on individuals and local businesses to come together, show support and get involved as they are hoping to make the event even bigger and better than originally planned.
This will be their third year hosting a Sleep Easy event, where people come together and spend the night ‘sleeping rough’ to raise money for their supported accommodation and awareness of the plight of youth homelessness.
They are hoping to raise even more than the £10,000 that was raised last year.
Money brought in has helped YMCA North Tyneside provide more than 36 young people with supported accommodation, a state-of-the-art gym, a community training café, day nursery and many detached youth work projects.
Dean Titterton, YMCA North Tyneside chief executive, said: “We are hoping to raise much-needed awareness of the plight of rough sleeping among young people.
“Without the support we offer, many more young people would be sleeping on the streets and have less options and less chance of realising their potential.”
The charity is looking for companies to sponsor the event either financially or by providing a service or product on the night to add to those already supporting the event.
Individuals can donate to the YMCA North Tyneside online, by cheque or in person.
