Slimmers to pass on tips with their own groups

Two women are toasting their success after losing weight and changing their lives with Slimming World.

Liz Marijt, 58, from Monkseaton, transformed her life and health by losing six stones.

She said: “I can’t believe how my life has changed, it’s amazing just how much energy I have every day.”

Liz, crippled with arthritis in both hips, reached an all time low at Christmas 2010 through exhaustion and pain.

Talked into joining Slimming World by her husband, her health improved almost immediately and was taken off gastric medication within a few weeks.

Now her life is totally changed for the better. She is often found hill walking, rambling, attending Zumba classes and a couple of gym sessions each week keep her fit and healthy.

Liz said: “I have built up strength up to the point where I can easily help my daughter, it means the world to me.

“Arthritis is painful, and there is no cure, but my pain has receded to such a point where it is nearly non-existent since losing weight.

“Stomach problems are a thing of the past, and for the first time in my life, I have actually learnt how to run recently. I feel like a kid again.”

Ruth Branthwaite, 51, has been battling her weight for many years while also had to overcome breast cancer in 2008 but during her chemotherapy she developed a deep vein thrombosis in her wrist.

She knew she was putting on weight but was concentrating on getting back to full health. However when she tried putting on her work clothes again in 2009, she found none fit and joined Slimming World.

Ruth soon lost two and a half stone, and is determined to keep her weight off. She loves shopping for clothes and has given her larger clothes to charity.

Ruth said: “I love attending group; everyone is so friendly and supportive. Following the Slimming World plan is really easy and you never feel hungry.

“I love trying new recipes and the whole family enjoys Slimming World meals – it doesn’t feel like you are on a diet at all.”

The pair are now passing on their tips with their own groups. Liz will be running her group at Valley Gardens Middle School every Monday night while Ruth’s group will be held at Kings Priory School every Wednesday night at 7.15pm.
