Special tours at shortlist church

A church recently shortlisted for the award of Best Modern Church is offering a ‘behind the scenes tour’ over the Christmas Period.

The Church of Our Lady and St. Columba, in Carville Road, Wallsend, was considered by judges from the Ecclesiastical Architects Association and National Churches Trust to be one of the finest places to worship constructed since 1953 – the only church in the north east to be shortlisted.

The Church was opened in 1956.

Visitors will receive a warm welcome to services at any time, but a special event is being staged on Saturday, December 28, between 11am and 1.30pm when guides will be available to give a tour of the church and point out the features which so impressed the judges.
