Sport project set to be launched

A project to get more residents to take part in sport and physical activity is being launched at The Parks Sports Centre in North Shields on Sunday.

‘Activate North Tyneside’ targets residents aged 14 and over.

The free event is from noon to 3pm with activities such as badminton, boxing, judo, basketball, rugby, cricket and more.

Coaches from a host of local sports clubs will also be on hand to help and offer advice.

Coun Eddie Darke, cabinet member for leisure, culture and tourism, said: “Trying an activity you haven’t done before, or haven’t done for a while, can seem a bit daunting at first; but we hope people will be encouraged to come along.”
