Store staff have helped raise thousands of pounds for a cancer charity after a year of fundraising.
Employees at the Matalan store in Killingworth raised £3,514.44 for the St Oswald’s Hospice in Gosforth.
Among the numerous challenges – as part of St Oswald’s Life List initiative – were zip slides, the Great North Run, Great North Bike Ride and It’s a Knockout, plus raffles, wishing wells and a sponsored run on a treadmill.
Linda Pears, charity champion at Matalan, said: “I have found being part of the fundraising team to be a rewarding and uplifting experience.
“The effort and enthusiasm put into the events by all members of staff was great.
“We have received good responses from all those who have donated to St Oswald’s, as there is a lot of respect in the community for the work the Hospice do for their patients.”
Amy Slater, fundraiser at St Oswald’s, said: “I’d like to say a huge thank you to all of the staff at Matalan for supporting us throughout the year and for getting involved in so many of the Life List challenges.
“We rely on the support of local companies to help us raise the £6.5m we need each year to continue providing care to north east families.”
“Life List is a fantastic way for people to take the plunge and do that thing they have always fancied, whether this is by themselves or with a group of work colleagues. Our fundraising team will offer support to anyone looking to complete a challenge.”
The Hospice’s ‘Life List’ is based around the idea that everybody has a list of ambitions and challenges they would like to complete in their lifetime but may not have time to arrange by themselves.
St Oswald’s can turn this list into a reality, as the Life List comprises of a range of sponsored challenges, big and small, which people can sign up to, whilst raising money in aid of the local charity.
