Building society staff swapped passbooks for pasta to spend the day helping stock shelves at a foodbank.

Colleagues from Yorkshire Building Society’s North Shields branch, in Bedford Way, volunteered at The BAY Foodbank.

Michelle Scorer, customer consultant at the branch, said: “The BAY Foodbank is a fantastic charity which provides a lifeline to many people facing crisis within our community.

“We had a really humbling day and spent our time marking up and dating items and then packed up food parcels for single people, couples or families depending on what was required.”

Jackie Dickinson, manager at The BAY Foodbank, said: “I’d like to thank the staff for giving up their time to help.”

“As we are one of the largest foodbanks in the country, we have to rely heavily on volunteers.

“Everything from collecting the donations from the drop off points, sorting it all out for counting in, stocking the shelves, and on some occasions delivering the food parcels all requires considerable manpower.”
