A group of fundraisers stepped out to raise money for charity.

Members of Slimming World took part in a charity walk along Whitley Bay beach to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

The event was part of the organisation’s Race for Life initiative which saw various groups taking part in runs or walks in aid of the charity.

The walk along Whitley Bay beach was organised by Lisa Wakeham, who helps run the Slimming World Group at Balkwell Community Centre, along with June Patterson, who runs the group at Whitley Bay Library.

Dozens of people turned out and, blessed by sunshine, they walked from Watts Slope to St Mary’s Lighthouse and back.

And at the end of it all, they raised nearly £200 for Cancer Research UK.

Lisa said: “Everyone who took part did it as they or a member of their family has sadly been affected by cancer.”
