Store joins in fundraiser in memory of former colleague

A FAMILY fun day is being held at a Killingworth store to help raise money for a foundation set up in memory of a man who drowned while travelling the world.

Matalan stores around the north east are taking part in the fun days in memory of former employee Chris Shoesmith, who worked at the Knaresborough store near York.

The 24-year-old drowned on June 27 this year while travelling abroad in Laos in south east Asia.

Staff at the Matalan store in Killingworth are taking part in the four-day fun day – from Friday to Monday.

All money raised will go to the foundation trust in memory of Chris to help people backpacking in Asia.

Each day between 10am and 4pm there will be face painting, a bouncy castle, funfair rides, raffles, a car boot sale and more.

And on the Sunday, Metro Radio DJs will be in attendance to entertain.
