Summer fair back for a fifth year
A popular fair is making its return for a fifth year.
Whitley Lodge Community Spirit Summer Fair is being held from 1pm to 4pm on Sunday, June 5.
There will be children’s activities, music and food across the Whitley Lodge Shopping Centre parade and main grass area.
More than 20 local craft businesses will be in the adjacent community centre at Whitley Lodge First School.
Among the activities will be face painting, games, bouncy castle, superhero characters, entertainment from local band Gig Fear and dance group the Maddi Dolls, a tombola and more.
There will be plenty of culinary delights including tea and scones in Willow Tree Café, fish and chips at Pantrini’s, The Smokie Blues BBQ, Scream for Pizza, Tynemouth Coffee Co., and The Pimms tent.
John Evans, WLCS event manager and owner of The Treehouse, said: “We hope the local community will support us and come along to enjoy the day.
“It is incredible to think here we still are five years later building a bigger fair offering for 2016 and introducing extra attractions such as the Territorial Army and emergency service vehicles.”
Canon, Sue Hart, Reader at St Mary’s Parish Church and Chair of Whitley Lodge Community Spirit, added “Organising the WLCS fair is a fabulous example of community effort with continuous support and commitment from the local Lodge businesses, volunteers and residents. We are looking forward to welcoming all to this year’s fair.”
Whitley Lodge Community Spirit is a non-profit organisation committed to working and raising funds for the local Whitley Lodge community including planning and running the Summer and Christmas fairs by offering free or low cost activities for all the family to enjoy.
Volunteers from the Whitley Lodge businesses, St Mary’s Church and residents within the area run WLCS with new members welcome.
Recent WLCS purchases have included the new flower planters outside the shops, the Christmas lights on the lampposts, park benches both for Whitley Lodge First School and for the Whitley Lodge Shopping Centre.
A donation was made to Whitley Lodge Under Fives for the purchase of new play equipment too.
