Surfers will be able to keep track of conditions at Tynemouth thanks to a new app.
The Surfing in Tynemouth app, which has already been downloaded more than 2,500 times by Apple iPhone users, is now available on Android devices and the new Apple Watch.
It provides surfers from in and around the area with a one-stop-shop of information, including surf conditions and forecasts, details about local surf schools and their locations, maps and surf-friendly accommodation.
The app also features a range of information, including bars and restaurants, local amenities and facilities such as changing rooms, toilets, chemists, shops and visitor attractions, as well as views from a webcam overlooking the North Sea.
Coun Eddie Darke, cabinet member for leisure, culture and tourism, said: “The app has proven very popular with iPhone users and, as more people use smart phones and tablets for easy access to the web, we thought this was the right time to launch the app on the other platforms too.”
The app can be downloaded free from the iTunes App Store and Google Play.
