Teen charged in connection with Lee Devlin’s death

A teenager has been charged in connection with the death of a Whitley Bay man.

The 16-year-old boy has been charged with manslaughter of Lee Devlin and will appear before North Tyneside Court on Wednesday, September 17.

Two teenage men arrested – a 19-year-old on suspicion of wounding with intent to commit GBH and an 18-year-old on suspicion of murder – remain on bail pending further enquiries.

A 16-year-old girl arrested on suspicion of GBH has also been bailed.

Police are continuing to investigate Lee’s death after he was found with head injuries next to a walkway near the town’s Metro station before being pronounced dead at North Tyneside Hospital on Friday, September 12.

Lee travelled by Metro from Howdon on Friday evening and arrived at Whitley Bay Metro station at 9.45pm.

It’s believed he was then outside the Metro station for a short time.

Officers are asking for help from the public to piece together what happened after 9.45pm and when he was found with injuries just before 11pm.

A post mortem examination has been carried out and the results are inconclusive.
