A teenager was threatened by two men armed with a knife during a street robbery.

The 17-year-old was approached by two men in Ripley Avenue, North Shields, at 8.05am on Wednesday, September 23.

The men demanded a soft drink from the teenager before threatening him with a knife.

The teenager was left shaken by the incident but not injured.

The first man is described as being 5ft 11ins tall with short mousey blonde coloured hair. He spoke with a local accent and was wearing light grey jogging bottoms and a blue Nike hooded top.

The second man is described as being 6ft tall, had black hair and was unshaven. He was wearing a navy tracksuit.

Neighbourhood Inspector Mark Storey said: “Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and we appeal for anyone with information to contact us.

“This happened at a busy time when people were on the way to work and school and we appeal for anyone who was in or around Ripley Avenue at around 8am this morning to contact us as you may have information to help.

“Extra officers are on patrol in the area carrying out enquiries, speaking to people and offering reassurance.”
