Teenager stabbed in Newcastle city centre

Police dealing with a disturbance in Newcastle city centre have arrested a man.

At 6pm today (Saturday), Northumbria Police were called to Old Eldon Square in the city centre. A 19-year-old man had suffered stab wounds and was taken to hospital for treatment. His condition is stable and his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

A 17-year-old male has been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent and is in police custody.

Extra officers remain in the city centre to offer reassurance, anyone concerned can speak to an officer on patrol.

Officers are continuing to carry out enquiries and appeal for witnesses.
