I read with interest Coun O’Shea’s comments on regeneration of Whitley Bay seafront (News Guardian, February 26) in which he states the site of the former Avenue pub could be handed back to the community and become a garden.
Our borough is in dire need of affordable housing. This large, brown field site, which has services already in place, would be ideal for such a development.
Much as I applaud the idea of donating the site to the community, we have other areas in the borough where green spaces need protecting.
