Two charities have received a cash boost thanks to the efforts of a local councillor.
During his 12 months as chairman of North Tyneside Council, Frank Lott raised money for The Alan Shearer Foundation and Macmillan Cancer Support.
And last week he was able to present cheques for £2,400 to each organisation after fundraising events and activities including charity nights, raffles and an auction.
Coun Lott said: “I am extremely pleased to have been able to raise this amount of money and I must thank those who have helped me do so.
“Both charities provide incredible support and care to those who need it.”
Macmillan fundraising manager Kelly Knighting-Wykes said: “We really appreciate this fantastic donation which will make a big difference to our services.”
Nicola Milne, operations manager for The Alan Shearer Foundation, said: “We are very grateful to Coun Lott, North Tyneside Council and to everyone who took part in their fundraising events.”
New council chairman Coun Janet Hunter has chosen to support Help for Heroes and Rugby Union’s charity the Injured Players Foundation during her year of office.
