TEMPORARY traffic measures will be in place at the Tyne Tunnel this weekend so road works can take place at the southern interchange in Jarrow.
From 7am on Saturday August 6 traffic lights will be in place at the junction of the Jarrow loop road and the northbound A19. The lights will remain in place throughout the day while cabling works are undertaken. These works may continue into Sunday August 7.
Between 7am and 3pm on Sunday August 7 temporary lane closures will be in place along A185 Straker Street (between the A19 roundabout and the Howard Street / Priory Road roundabout).
There will be no northbound access for traffic leaving the A19/Tyne Tunnel towards Jarrow and a diversion via Church Bank will be in place for motorists leaving the Tyne Tunnel and wishing to travel to Jarrow.
One lane of Straker Street will remain open for southbound traffic, providing access from Howard Street / Priory Road (Jarrow) towards the southbound A19 / A185 roundabout. The northbound lane closures will enable high friction surfacing to be added to the carriageway.
Vehicles leaving the Tyne Tunnel and wishing to remain on the A19 southbound will not be affected by these works.
Pedestrian routes will be maintained along Straker Street throughout the temporary lane closure.
The Tyne Tunnel will remain open for business as usual throughout the weekend.
TT2 and Bouygues Travaux Publics UK apologise for the temporary disruption associated with these works, and would like to thank road users for their ongoing patience.
