Former SSI workers are being offer the chance to gain offshore skills free of charge thanks to a North Shields company.
OPITO Blaster Painter courses are being delivered by AIS Training at its state-of-the-art training village.
The courses will help workers prepare, paint and blast offshore structures at introductory and advanced levels.
Run over three days, the level 1 training course is the only blasting and painting qualification outside of Aberdeen which has formal approval from OPITO.
AIS is also offering additional courses including OPITO fireproofing, fork-lift truck driving and overhead crane operation free-of-charge to eligible SSI workers.
Rob Storey, head of skills and education at AIS, said: “We are delighted to be able to offer these invaluable skills to former SSI workers.
“AIS commercially trains 17,500 delegates every year from all over the world for the global energy sector and has an outstanding reputation in helping people progress their careers. We’re now looking forward to putting this expertise to good use to help those suffering from SSI’s closure last year.”
