Tree leads to a rescue call out

A floating tree was mistaken for two kayakers in trouble off King Edward’s Bay.

Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade and Cullercoats RNLI Lifeboat were called out at 6.15pm on Wednesday, May 22, after concerns were raised.

But when crews arrived, they found it was a large tree, which the lifeboat towed back to Cullercoats Bay to prevent it causing a danger to shipping.
