Trial date set for teenager accused of murder

A teenager has appeared in court accused of killing his uncle at a North Tyneside flat.

Lithuanian man Mantas Leonavicius, 22, was found dead at a home in Stanley Street, North Shields, at 2.20pm on Friday, May 10.

Eligijus Zemaitis, of Barmouth Way, North Shields, was charged with his murder and appeared at Newcastle Crown Court via video link from Durham prison for a preliminary hearing on Thursday, May 16.

A provisional trial date was set for the 18-year-old for Monday, October 21.

He is due before the court again on Friday, July 26 for a plea and case management hearing.

Zemaitis was remanded in custody.
