The Linskill Development Trust was created to run the Linskill Centre, in North Shields, after a hard-fought campaign to savethe building.

And now officials and members have been celebrating the trust’s tenth anniversary.

The centre has grown over the last decade, playing host to 30 tenants and small businesses, featuring a nursery rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted, the newly-opened Café 32, and delivering a programme of events and activities.

Simeon Ripley, chief executive of the Linskill and North Tyneside Community Development Trust, said: “We are delighted to be celebrating our tenth birthday with news that the Linskill Centre is more popular than ever before and has become one of the region’s most successful and thriving community enterprises.

“The Linskill Centre today is now a thriving place that receives more than 120,000 visits from the North Tyneside community every year and has become a hub for local businesses, community events and wellbeing and creative activities.”

Over the last decade, the Trust has invested in the Linskill Centre, securing capital grants and organising hundreds of fundraising events to improve the facilities.

Simeon added: “None of this could have happened without the commitment and support of local people and the successful campaign that started in 2004 to save the Centre from demolition.”

“The support of local people has continued unabated over the years and has helped to make Linskill the model of community enterprise it is today.”

Jill Prendergast, Chair of the Board of Trustees, added: “As a community development trust, the Centre is genuinely owned by and is responsive to the community it serves – and we look forward to many more years of working to ensure it remains at the heart of the community.”
