Away skipper Graeme Wrightson won the toss and wasted no time in asking the home side to have a bat on a wicket with enough grass and colour to encourage the seamers.

Ben Debnam and Durham player Mike Jones opened up and had to work hard for their runs against Graeme Hubber and in particular former Durham player Melvyn Betts .

A tough time to bat but the openers dug in and shared a partnership of 42 before Jones was bowled with a beauty from Betts and the very next ball the same bowler had Josh Koen bowled too ! Debnam went next and when Smith was outfoxed by Betts the innings was imploding at 64/4.

Professional Mark Watt and the in form Barry Stewart then put together a good stand of 50 at which point Reece Carr had Watt caught for a well made 36.

Stewart who played nicely through the off side exuded calm and with support from 15 yo debutant Will Perry and David Hymers batted with the tail ending up last man out for 49 valuable runs at which point Debnam declared the innings at 176/9.

Betts was the pick of the away attack. His Skilful medium paced bowling caused all of the batsmen problems and his figures of 3/22 off 15 overs were outstanding.

Wesley Bedja opened the bowling for Tynemouth and the young South African struck quickly bowling Dan Anderson in his very first over. Andrew Smith then induced a false shot from Reece Carr and the visitors were struggling at 1/2.

A fine 67 partnership between James Thompson and the impressive Johnny Bushnell built the hopes of Sacriston, however, Bedja, returning for a second spell, had both players dismissed in successive overs . Thompson was caught behind by a diving Chris Fairley .

Debnam then looked to his spinners to finish the job and Mark Watt with 3/20 and Martin Pollard with 2/21 didn’t let him down or the batsmen off the hook.

The Sacriston tail battled hard to save the match but all in vain. A good all round bowling effort with special mention to the hostile Bedja whos 4/25 set the win up.
