Businesses across North Tyneside have been affected by flooding this afternoon has the high tide caused banks to burst along the coast line.
At North Shields Fish Quay water poured across the roads and in to businesses as the banks overflowed just before 5pm today (Thursday).
It’s believed around 12 inches of water drained in to some businesses and emergency sand bags were brought in to the area.
Christian Cerisola of Quay2Media described what it was like watching the floods unfold along the Fish Quay this afternoon.
He said: “We’d been watching the alerts all afternoon, but everything happened very quickly when the river burst its banks through The Gut.
“Everyone rushed to get their vehicles to higher ground and get some sandbags over the most vulnerable parts of their property.
“The water was coming in so fast though.
“It was bizarre seeing commercial sized bins floating down the middle of the road.
“Its a pretty tight little community down here, I’m sure everyone will be back on their feet really soon.”
Most of the flood water has began to subside but weather warnings remain in place for high tide in the early hours of Friday morning.
