Tynemouth Rowing Club put two crews in Northern Explore Rowing Sunday League
The Northern Explore Rowing Sunday League 2017 season is under way with Tynemouth Rowing Club having two crews competing as part of 19 crews in the sculling splash and dash races.
Due to the volume of entries, crews were limited to three races each rather than the usual four.
Tynemouth Buoys, with Paul McCalvey, Mark Hyson, Steve Dunn and captain Chris McGuire, were coxed by Monica Buckland.
Tynemouth Gulls, with Catherine Molyneux, Monica Buckland, Sarah Richardson and captain Kerry Jordan, were coxed by Chris McGuire in races one and three with Paul McCalvey coxing race two.
The Buoys got their season off to an emphatic start winning all three races, while the Gulls were disappointed not to register a win, losing by the narrowest of margins in each of their three races.
Next month’s Explore Rowing Sunday League will be hosted by Durham Amateur Rowing Club on April 3, staging a series of sweep slash and dash races.
Established in 1867, this year sees Tynemouth Rowing Club celebrate its 150th anniversary.
To start the celebrations the club will be hosting a dinner at the Grand Hotel, Tynemouth, on Saturday, March 18.
Tickets are £38 for a three-course dinner and Andy Parkinson, CEO of British Rowing, will also be in attendance. Email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
