Police have arrested a man in connection with a collision between a car and a child in North Tyneside.

At around 4.40pm yesterday (July 3), a four-year-old boy was hit by a car on Rocket Way in Forest Hall. He was taken to hospital by paramedics with non-life-threatening injuries where he remains to undergo treatment.

After the collision happened, the man driving the car, thought to be a small, dark-coloured model, got out of the car to check on the child, but left before police arrived on the scene.

The man who was arrested is currently in custody and inquiries into the collision are ongoing.
