Vandals have caused substantial damage to part of an allotment site in Whitley Bay.
Plot holders at the site near Churchill Playing Fields have been left devastated by the attack last Wednesday, May 27.
A bugs mansion was set on fire, which spread and caused damage to the nearby metal fence, while two plots used by young carers were also damaged.
A clean-up operation has taken place and now plot holders are set to discuss future safety measures while the fire damaged fence will need to be replaced.
Two plot holders spent most of last Wednesday clearing rubble and tidying the site. They also raked the area, which was left blackened.
A spokesperson for the site said: “This is a very unusual event for our site, as our metal fence has always kept us very secure, and in fact we haven’t had anything like this happen to our site before.”
