Vandals have damaged several cars in an overnight attack.

Police are appealing for witnesses following several incidents of criminal damage to vehicles in the Longbenton area.

Vehicles parked in Charnwood Avenue, Hollington Avenue, Skelder Avenue, Stoneleigh Avenue, Monks Park Way and Blackfriars Way, were damaged in the early hours of Sunday.

Neighbourhood Beat Manager for Longbenton, PC Mark Clements, said: “Some ten vehicles were mindlessly damaged on Sunday morning and the damage has caused a great deal of inconvenience and cost to the residents who have been affected.

“Northumbria Police take these reports seriously and offenders will be dealt with robustly. This appears to be an isolated incident and we want to make sure we nip the problem in the bud.

“We have spoken to several residents, but we request any further witnesses who have not yet made contact with the police to do so as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting reference number 252 of 07/05/17 or ring the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
