Veterans can get badges to mark service

War veterans across North Tyneside are being invited to a special event to mark Armed Forces Day.

A flag will be raised at the event taking place at the White Swan Centre in Killingworth on Monday, June 22.

A ceremony will follow which will feature the presentation of badges to ex-service personnel.

Anyone who has served in the armed forces, including the volunteer and regular reserves, is entitled to apply for the badge. Veterans must live in North Tyneside.

Those eligible should contact North Tyneside Council who will send applications to the Service Personnel and Veterans Agency and, if successful, they will be invited to the presentation ceremony.

The service is part of a programme of events that have been arranged for the lead up to national Armed Forces Day on Saturday, June 27.

Veterans who have previously been presented with a lapel badge can not apply again.

Veterans who would like to be presented with one of the badges at the Armed Forces Day event should contact the events team at the council by calling (0191) 643 7409 or email events@northtyneside.gov.uk

The deadline for applications is Friday, May 22.
