Veterans invited to get special badge as part of Forces Day

War veterans across North Tyneside are being invited to a special ceremony in the borough.

A previous National Armed Forces Day held by North Tyneside Council.

The event will be part of a programme of events that has been arranged in the lead up to National Armed Forces Day on Saturday, June 25.

A flag will be raised at the event, which will take place on Monday, June 20, at the Tynemouth Army Reserve Centre, New Clifford’s Fort, Station Terrace, North Shields.

A ceremony will follow, which will include a presentation of badges to ex-service personnel.

Any North Tyneside resident who has served in the armed forces, including the volunteer and regular reserves, is entitled to apply for the badge.

The deadline for applications is Friday, May 27.

Those eligible should contact North Tyneside Council for an application to the Defence Business Services-MOD Medal Office and, if successful, they will be invited to the presentation ceremony.

Veterans who have previously been presented with a lapel badge can not apply again.
