Villagers to be included in extended ‘59’ bus service

A BUS service is being extended as part of a trial run.

Go North East’s 59 service, on behalf of Nexus, will cover Murton village on its way to Whitley Bay Metro station.

The change takes place from July 31 following requests by local residents and ward councillors.

The revised route will be monitored by Nexus for the first eight months.

The 59 runs hourly from Whitley Bay via Shiremoor to Backworth during the day, Monday to Saturday.

Tobyn Hughes, director of customer services at Nexus, said: “We have listened to the concerns of residents and acted to provide a solution within the resource available.

“The revised route will allow residents from Murton to access local amenities and we hope they will strongly support this.”

There is also a revised route for the W3 bus service. Journeys between Monkseaton and Whitley Bay will operate via Monkseaton Metro station, additional new journeys being added Monday to Friday during peak periods.
