Vote is a ringing endorsement of our future plans

I'd like to thank everyone who voted in the recent elections for local councillors, the Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner and in the mayoral referendum.

Before I was elected in 2013 I promised residents I would hold a referendum and give them the opportunity to decide on how their council would be run in the future.

I’m delighted that the people of North Tyneside chose to continue with an elected mayor and a cabinet.

I believe this is a judgment on the forward strides this council has made and is a ringing endorsement for our future plans.

I am a listening Mayor and residents have told me they are very happy with our multi-million pound regeneration schemes transforming the coast and breathing new life into the town centres.

They’re also thrilled that we’ve created 14,000 jobs, we’re building schools and improving others, we take a tough stance on antisocial behaviour, and we’re building more council and affordable homes for families.

All of this as well as forging ahead with a £300million transformation of sheltered housing schemes.

Together with our partners, many great things have been achieved and there’s a tremendous buzz around North Tyneside.

I’m now looking forward, as many of you will be, to delivering the plans that we have all worked on together that will further improve our borough.
