Walking by design for school pupils
Pupils at Whitley Bay's Star of the Sea Primary have designed badges to show the benefits of walking to school.
Each class was given the challenge of designing a badge, set by the school council, with help from everyday walking charity Living Streets, which delivers work in the school on behalf of Schools Go Smarter.
Two winning badge designs were chosen after stiff competition from 398 pupils.
They were then printed onto a banner, pictured, which is being displayed to showcase the pupils’ fantastic work. Their creativity was celebrated in a special assembly last month.
Deputy headteacher Kathryn DiMambro said: “We are delighted to be working with Schools Go Smarter and Living Streets as they have had great input with our walk to school campaign and met regularly with our school council.”
