Staff at Warm Zone have signed up to become Dementia Friends to help them better understand the condition and support customers and others who are affected by it.

They have also urged all of their contractors to join the scheme, which is run by the Alzheimer’s Society.

And their efforts do not stop there, as team members have been hard at work knitting ‘twiddle muffs’ for Cramlington hospital.

They are used to cover cannulas to stop patients with dementia from pulling them out, and are decorated with buttons, hoops and soft toys to distract the patients.

Operations manager Jill Delf said: “As a Dementia Friend we can learn a little bit about what it’s like to live with dementia and turn that understanding into action.”
