The choir was started by Irene Anderson and Paul McDermott in October 2013. It began initially as a six-week experiment but nothing could have prepared them for the response from the local community.

The choir has grown considerably in size and now has more than 70 members.

Linskill was followed by Harmony Youth Choir.

This choir was formed just over four years ago to cater for those children who wanted to perform to the highest standards and to give them the chance to meet like-minded young people.

Since its formation, Harmony has established itself as one of the leading young choirs in the north.

Videos of the festival pageant and sstreet performers in action are also on the Guardian website.

The festival continues today.
