WATCH: New look pub re-opens its doors with special event
An historic pub in the heart of a village has re-opened following a major refurbishment.
A celebratory event took place last Friday as customers flocked back to The Salutation, in Front Street, Tynemouth.
The popular 18th century venue has undergone a £370,000 refurbishment to give it a contemporary feel.
The investment has helped create nine new jobs while the pub now features craft beers; cocktails; a whole new urban style food menu; hi-tech in sports viewing; and extended licensing.
Stephen Lamb, leader of the brand new pub team, said: “The potential for The Salutation, in arguably the North East’s most aspiring town, is huge but during modern times, as yet untapped.
“The pub name dates back to the 13th century monks and Priory, it’s legendary, and we’re putting the new pub back on the map with the same prestige.
“The design is jaw-droppingly inspirational, preserving authentic character whilst shifting to a modern, stylish, sociable environment.
“We’ve completely opened up the layout adding to the charm with reclaimed wood and industrial finishes.
“Even the beer garden has been overhauled with heat lamps to provide all year indulgence.”
The opening showcase VIP event saw performances from local acoustic Beth Mercai.
The pub’s drinks range has been extended with additional cask ales accompanied by new to the Inn, craft beers which will include local brews as well as a spectrum of distilled gins, cocktails and selected wines.
On trend street food, specialising in tapas and hand-stretched artisan pizzas, are another new addition.
Sky and BT will air through top of the range 4k HD TVs in three zones, making diverse sports visible anywhere in the pub.
