This is the first monthly column from Churches Together in North Shields. Who and what is Churches Together?
Here’s a short introduction.
Churches and other Christian organisations in North Shields have pledged to work together, as indeed they have done for many years.
Some of the things we do together include services for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, Good Friday (with open-air drama and procession), Christian Aid Week and Pentecost and a Christmas carol service at the start of the Victorian Christmas market weekend, which will be on Saturday, December 12, at 10am this year.
We also produce a joint newsletter four times a year and are involved with Christian Aid Week collections and events.
We also support two organisations, Nite Bite, and New to the UK.
Nite Bite provides a free, hot, three-course meal for the homeless on Tuesdays between 4pm and 6pm and currently has up to 30 people attending.
The New to the UK drop-in meets on Wednesdays from 11am to 1pm and provides help and support for asylum seekers.
Both meet at the same venue – North Shields Baptist Church, in Howard Street.
Churches Together meets three times a year as a forum, with representatives of all churches attending.
More will follow next month.
