We’ve already elected them!

I READ with interest the article regarding the proposed establishment of trusts to administer council functions, and the resulting need for volunteers to work as trustees (News Guardian, January 26).

I admit I am inexperienced in such matters, but I had thought the citizens of North Tyneside had elected trustees to run their civic institutions. We call them councillors.

If trusts are to take over these matters, then what is the point of an elected (and paid) council and mayor?
