A popular attraction has scooped a prestigious accolade for the fifth year running.
St Mary’s Lighthouse, in Whitley Bay, has achieved a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence for maintaining a score of 4.5/5 or higher every year since 2012.
The Certificate of Excellence is awarded to properties that consistently achieve outstanding traveller reviews.
There have been more than 400 reviews of St Mary’s Lighthouse on the travel website from people who have visited the landmark and visitor centre, run by North Tyneside Council.
More than half rated their experience as ‘excellent’ with the majority of other reviewers judging it ‘very good’ – the average score is 4.5 out of 5.
The lighthouse is also rated number one out of 16 things to do in the town.
Adam Kelsey, manager of St Mary’s Lighthouse and Visitor Centre, said: “We are thrilled to be celebrating our fifth Certificate of Excellence in a row.
“This is a really important and valuable award because it is based on the reviews left by people who have visited us and have gone to the effort to say what they thought.
“All the staff work really hard year-in, year-out, to maintain the high levels of customer service and to provide the best experience possible for visitors.”
Mayor Norma Redfearn added: “Congratulations once again to all the staff at the lighthouse – it truly is an excellent place to visit and something we’re proud to have in the borough and this latest award is a reflection of that.”
